BlockBeats News, May 16th – The two-day BRICS Ministerial Meeting held in New Delhi, India, concluded on May 15th without issuing a joint statement due to significant differences among member countries regarding the Iran War and the Middle East situation.
According to the Indian side, representatives at the meeting presented their respective national positions and exchanged views on regional security issues. Some member countries expressed reservations on the Gaza situation and the security of the Red Sea and the Strait of Hormuz.
Iranian Foreign Minister Abbas Araghchi stated during the meeting that "Iran is an indivisible country, and the era of U.S. dominance has ended," calling on BRICS countries to condemn the military actions of the United States and Israel. Furthermore, the Iranian side accused some regional countries of playing an indirect role in the conflict.
Reports also indicated that the UAE and some Gulf countries were accused of engaging in security cooperation with Israel and the United States during the conflict, leading to strong displeasure from Iran. However, the UAE denied the allegations and stated that its position was inconsistent with the reports.
Analysts believe that the failure to issue a joint statement at this meeting reflects the widening strategic divergences among BRICS countries on Middle East security issues.
