HK Media: Mainland Chinese Man Allegedly Committed Suicide in Hong Kong Due to Cryptocurrency Investment Loss, Arrested for Carrying Gasoline and Lighter

BlockBeats News, May 16th. According to Hong Kong media, a 34-year-old mainland Chinese man, holding a double-entry permit to Hong Kong, incurred a loss of about 500,000 yuan on a cryptocurrency platform during his visit to Hong Kong. Allegedly feeling emotionally distressed, he posted on social media indicating suicidal tendencies and a plan to travel to Hong Kong.

Upon receiving related information, law enforcement agencies launched an investigation. Around noon on May 14th, the man was intercepted at a fast-food restaurant on Admiralty Road, and a lighter and suspected gasoline were found on his person. The police arrested him for suspected "possession of any item with intent to destroy or damage property," and he is currently detained for further investigation.

Reportedly, no one was harmed in the incident, and there was no need for evacuation at the scene. The man is said to have complained to the relevant platform multiple times about his investment loss but did not receive a satisfactory response.
