Is the 15-year Chromebook era coming to an end? Google unveils a new product category, the Googlebook, restructuring the desktop ecosystem with Android.

According to Dongzha Beating monitoring, Google has officially launched a new laptop category called Googlebook, marking the end of a 15-year era of Chromebook's "cloud-first" approach. This is not just a hardware rebranding but a reimagining from an "operating system" to an "intelligent system": Googlebook integrates the ChromeOS and Android technology stack, driven by Gemini natively, with the first devices set to be released this fall.

This update has abandoned the traditional desktop logic, with AI taking over interaction and ecosystem cross-platform:

  • • Disrupting the "right-click" with Magic Pointer: In collaboration with DeepMind, Google is aiming to transform the decades-old cursor interaction. Users simply need to gently shake the mouse to awaken Gemini, where AI will provide quick actions based on on-screen context. For example, hovering over an email date will directly generate a calendar card, or selecting a new sofa and living room photo will instantly render a composite image.
  • • Full takeover of the Android mobile ecosystem: Thanks to underlying Android technology reuse, users can interact with the computer screen to order takeout or complete language check-ins via pop-ups without needing to pick up their phones. The file manager's new Quick Access feature allows direct access, search, and insertion of files from the phone to the computer without the need for transfers.
  • • Create your Widget: Users can generate a customized panel directly through natural language. For example, entering "plan family gathering" will automatically pull Gmail and calendar data to create an aggregated information flow on the desktop containing flight, hotel, restaurant reservations, and even a countdown.

The first batch of Googlebook devices will be co-created by Acer, Asus, Dell, HP, and Lenovo. The chassis features a highly recognizable Glowbar light strip, serving as the category's exclusive visual symbol. From an underlying architecture perspective, this is Google's response to Microsoft's Copilot+ PC and Apple's Mac, attempting to bring the world's largest mobile ecosystem directly to the desktop, establishing a seamless cross-platform closed loop that is difficult for competitors to replicate.
