OpenAI Snatches the Spotlight: Official Twitter Account Showcases Codex Migration Tool, Boldly Targeting Claude Code Users

According to Dongcha Beating Monitoring, OpenAI's official Twitter account directly shared a Codex migration tool link with the caption "Dropped it here," and the promotional image stated "Fewer rate limits, fewer interruptions." Without issuing a press release or writing a blog post, just this one tweet, waving at Claude Code users.

This migration tool is built into the Codex desktop application. To use it, open the settings page, click on "Import other agent setup," and the tool will scan the configuration of the existing AI programming assistant on your computer, able to migrate all of the following:

- System commands and behavior rules
- Custom skills and shortcuts
- Chat history and projects from the past 30 days
- MCP server (protocol for connecting external tools) configuration
- Hooks (automatically triggered scripts) and sub-agent settings

For configurations that cannot be automatically converted, Codex will start a new dialogue to guide users through manual handling item by item. OpenAI reminds users to check permissions and authentication settings after migration, as the permission systems on both sides are not interchangeable, and directly migrating them may not take effect.
