Coinbase Outage Postmortem: AWS Service Disruption Resolved Major Incident

BlockBeats News, May 8th - Coinbase's official support account released a statement today regarding the outage event. Around 8 p.m. local time on May 7th (US Eastern Time), the Coinbase system detected high error rates in multiple services. Upon investigation, the root cause was identified as a failure in AWS US East 1 Region (US-EAST-1), specifically in availability zone use1-az4, which then spread to multiple availability zones, causing a prolonged interruption of core transaction services. Coinbase was originally designed to withstand a single availability zone failure and recover quickly. However, this simultaneous multi-zone failure resulted in users being unable to conduct transactions.

The main issues have now been completely resolved, and Coinbase appreciates users' patience. The team will conduct a thorough analysis, and further details may be updated following AWS's official post-incident report. If users still experience any account issues, they can directly contact the Coinbase support team for assistance.
