a16z Intensifies Focus on AI and Crypto: Launches $2.2 Billion Crypto Fund 5 and Makes Continued Investments in AI Companies

On May 5th, a16z announced the launch of its fifth crypto fund, "Crypto Fund 5," totaling $2.2 billion. This fund will be used to invest in blockchain startups at all stages over the next decade. a16z stated that while some venture capital is shifting towards AI, the current cryptocurrency industry is at a "historical high," with a focus on stablecoins, payments, DeFi, prediction markets, and RWA.
At the same time, a16z is also accelerating its AI application layer investments.
In the enterprise AI sector, a16z led the Series A funding round of AI system integration company Tessera Labs. The company aims to replace traditional SAP consulting teams with a multi-agent system to achieve ERP automation migration. The company claims that its 6-person AI team can accomplish the work of approximately 60 consultants over two years.
In the AI talent platform field, a16z also led a $22.75 million Series A funding round for the London-based AI recruitment platform Ethos. Ethos uses AI to analyze candidates' papers, code, and professional abilities, rather than relying on traditional resumes, in an attempt to address talent identification issues in the oversaturated AI resume generation background.
Additionally, a16z previously announced leading the seed round funding of the AI creation platform Glif. Positioned as a "creative sector super Agent," Glif integrates various generative AI tools such as image, video, and audio, aiming to simplify the AI content creation process through a unified Agent.
Analysts believe that a16z is actively betting on the dual themes of "Crypto infrastructure + AI application explosion," with a particular focus on the new opportunities brought by the combination of Agents, automated workflows, and DeFi.
