Media Feud with the Trump Family Continues as Forbes Releases a Major Investigation After White House Correspondents' Dinner Disruption

BlockBeats News, April 29th, just as Trump ended years of boycott and attended the White House Correspondents' Association dinner for the first time as president, he was shot in the banquet hall. Just three days later, the mainstream U.S. media Forbes released a heavyweight investigation, directly accusing Trump's son Eric Trump of using Bitcoin to "get rich" and causing investors to lose nearly $500 million.

This morning, Forbes. The Bitcoin company under its name, American Bitcoin (ABTC), is named a cash cow but is actually an arbitrage tool, using the Trump family brand and the Bitcoin craze to push its valuation to $13.2 billion. By continuously selling stocks at an inflated value to buy Bitcoin, Eric almost zero input but used this to increase his personal wealth from about $190 million to $280 million.

The White House Correspondents' Association annual dinner, where the shooting occurred on the evening of April 25, was the first time U.S. President Trump attended the century-old traditional event as president. Trump had boycotted the dinner for four consecutive years in his first term, with his absence in 2017 becoming the first sitting U.S. president to miss the event since Reagan's hospitalization due to an assassination attempt in 1981. That year he instead held a rally in Pennsylvania, denouncing the mainstream media as "fake news." Trump continued to be absent in 2025, his first year in his second term. It is worth noting that Trump had attended the dinner as a private guest in 2011 and 2015 and had a memorable moment in 2011 where he was ridiculed by Obama.

The Trump family has always had a tense relationship with the U.S. mainstream media. Trump himself has long accused several mainstream media outlets of publishing "fake news" and has repeatedly filed high-dollar lawsuits for defamation. In July 2025, Trump sued The Wall Street Journal for $10 billion over a fabricated report involving his relationship with Epstein; in September 2025, Trump sued The New York Times and demanded $15 billion, accusing the related reports of defaming his business achievements and damaging his reputation; in December 2025, Trump also sued the BBC for $10 billion, alleging that its documentary inappropriately edited his speech.
