According to BotSeer Beating monitoring, Sam Altman responded for the first time to the previous home attack incidents in the Core Memory podcast. He said that the night before the incident, several colleagues were at his house for dinner and discussed the intense negative media coverage. Someone comforted him, saying, "The pressure is so high, but in a sense, it's also a good thing." Altman replied at the time, "At least no one wants to kill me." The next day, a Molotov cocktail was thrown at his house.
Altman described this incident as "a point of reference for everything": no matter how harshly people say things online, as long as it's limited to words, it's not a big deal. He did not go into detail about the attack, only saying that "there will be more similar things," and then redirected the conversation back to work.
Altman's residence was targeted in two consecutive attacks on April 10th and 12th. The first incident involved a 20-year-old man, Daniel Moreno-Gama, throwing a Molotov cocktail at the residence's gate, which was quickly extinguished by security personnel, and no one was harmed. Moreno-Gama was subsequently arrested near the OpenAI headquarters, carrying an anti-AI manifesto and facing multiple felony charges, including attempted murder and arson. Federal agents later found more materials at his Texas residence. In the early hours of April 12th, a Honda Accord drove past Altman's residence, and a passenger in the car fired a shot. Two suspects, Amanda Tom and Muhamad Tarik Hussein, were arrested for suspected negligent discharge of a firearm, and three firearms were recovered by the police. Authorities stated that there was no connection between the suspects in the two incidents.
