BlockBeats News, April 20th. Following a previous Supreme Court ruling that deemed the tariff policy illegal, the U.S. government will initiate a refund process starting on April 20th. Companies can submit applications through a new customs system to recover tariffs previously levied under emergency powers. The court determined that only Congress has the authority to impose tariffs, forcing the government to revoke the policy.
It is estimated that over 330,000 importers, involving 53 million batches of goods, may be eligible for a refund. Once approved, the refund and applicable interest will be processed within 60 to 90 days, though the review period for complex cases may be longer.
Officials have reminded that this refund process is of significant scale and complexity, but the funds will be directly reimbursed to the companies that originally paid the tariffs.
