US Media: US Indicates Burns Will Lead Delegation to Islamabad to Restart Negotiations, Iran Suspects It Is a Cover for "Attack"

BlockBeats News, April 20th, according to a report from AXIOS, U.S. officials revealed that Vice President Vance will lead a delegation to Islamabad for a new round of talks with Iran on Tuesday night before the ceasefire expires, in hopes of reaching an agreement or extending the ceasefire. This meeting may provide a last-minute opportunity to reach an agreement or at least extend the ceasefire—although Iran has not yet confirmed its participation and is concerned that this may be a White House ruse.

In a brief call with Axios on Sunday local time, Trump expressed optimism about the so-called talks. "I feel good about it. The concept of the agreement is already complete. I think we are very likely to complete it," he said. However, Iran is lowering expectations and seems to suspect that Trump's talk of an agreement may be a cover for a U.S. strike. As of Sunday afternoon, Iran has not confirmed the dispatch of negotiating representatives to Islamabad, with several Iranian officials suggesting that Trump's true intent may be to restart the war.

The Iranian state news agency denied plans for the talks, stating that the Trump administration's "unreasonable and unrealistic demands, frequent changes of position, ongoing contradictions," and continued sanctions have created "no clear prospects for fruitful negotiations." It is currently unclear when the talks are expected to begin, and it is also unknown when Vance will depart from Washington. (FXStreet)
