BlockBeats News, April 18th, World announced a major upgrade to the World ID protocol, covering approximately 18 million users already verified through Orb, expanding to over 160 countries, described as the most significant version update to date. This upgrade focuses on introducing several practical application scenarios:
Integration with Tinder to provide users with a "real person verification identity" to enhance the authenticity of dating
Integration with Zoom to introduce anti-Deepfake verification functionality, confirming that call participants are real humans
Launch of the Concert Kit ticketing tool for event ticket identity verification and anti-scalping measures
In addition, World simultaneously launched the standalone World ID app (Beta), as a cross-platform identity verification tool, and open-sourced the SDK to allow third-party apps to build their authentication systems.
On the technical side, this upgrade introduces multi-key management, key rotation, account recovery, and session management mechanisms, and proposes the concept of "Human Continuity," emphasizing the continuous verification of the same real individual across multiple interactions, rather than just verifying a device or account.
From an ecosystem perspective, Reddit is exploring its use for identifying automated accounts, while Razer and Mythical Games have already adopted this standard in a gaming scenario.
In terms of the business model, World ID will charge a fee to integrating applications (based on active users), while the user end will remain free to use. Fees can be settled through on-chain wallets or third-party services, and support protocol-level automatic distribution.
