Microsoft Power Apps launches MCP Server, allowing business applications to be directly invoked by an AI agent

According to Dongcha Beating Monitoring, Microsoft has released a set of AI updates for the Power Apps low-code development platform, with the core being the Power Apps MCP Server (officially launched on May 4th): Business applications built with Power Apps by enterprises can expose data entry, querying, visualization, and other capabilities to the outside world through the MCP protocol, available for direct invocation by Copilot and custom agents, following the same permissions and business rules as human users.

This achieves a two-way integration of applications and AI. Internally, Microsoft 365 Copilot has officially launched in Power Apps model-driven applications (canvas apps entering public preview), allowing users to naturally language search data, automatically turn emails into form fields, and generate activity history summaries within the application. Externally, the application's business logic is output through MCP as tools callable by agents. Microsoft gives an example where a Power Apps application with years of accumulated recruitment policies can now drive an AI recruitment agent that complies with the same rules and permissions, without needing to rewrite the logic from scratch.

Simultaneously launched "Agent Feed" (Agent Feed, officially launched in May) addresses agent governance issues: administrators set approval thresholds, low-risk operations are automatically completed in the background, and high-impact operations (such as sending emails) require manual confirmation, with the approval interface embedded within the business application itself, eliminating the need for separate monitoring tools. The MCP protocol was previously mainly used in developer tools and AI programming assistants, and Microsoft is now introducing it into enterprise business software, marking a step toward the broader adoption of this protocol in enterprise settings.
