Hyperliquid Founder Interview: Raised by a Single Parent Fostering Self-Starter Traits, Early Display of Prodigy Scholar Characteristics

BlockBeats News, April 14th, Recently, Hyperliquid founder Jeff revealed his growth experience in an interview with Colossus, a magazine under Forbes. Jeff grew up with his younger sister on the Redwood Coast between San Francisco and Palo Alto. His parents are both Chinese immigrants and divorced when he was in third grade. His father left the family. His mother is an accountant and always worked overtime during tax season. Jeff recalled, "I could tell that some people were wealthier than us, but I never resented it. Going out to play wasn't expensive."

Jeff's school did not have an atmosphere of academic competition. Although his mother would say she wanted to push him, she never did. No one pushed him to do anything until he was in his teens. He played outside every day, went to school, came home, and played some more. In eighth grade, a chance encounter ignited his desire for learning. He then embarked on the path of a top student: he self-studied and completed all competition problems in ninth grade, made it to the USA Mathematical Olympiad Training Camp (Top 50 in the US) at 18, won a gold medal at the USA Physics Olympiad, and was ranked 24th in the world.

He then entered Harvard University on a full scholarship, and in the winter of his junior year, he participated in an internship program organized by Hudson River Trading with Scott Wu. At that time, there were a total of 10 interns selected. Hudson River Trading is one of the most successful global quantitative trading firms. Among these 10 people were also Alexandr Wang, who later founded Scale AI, and Jesse Zhang, who founded Decagon. This internship was conducted in the form of a three-week competition, and in each round, Wu and Jeff took the first and second place.
