BlockBeats News, April 14th. According to Axios, a US official and an informed source revealed that the US proposed that Iran accept a 20-year suspension of uranium enrichment during negotiations last weekend. Iran, on the other hand, proposed a shorter "single-digit" number of years as a counteroffer.
An informed source familiar with the situation said, "The US proposed at least 20 years, along with various other restrictions." The US also demanded that Iran remove all highly enriched uranium from its territory. According to two sources, Iran indicated its willingness to use a "supervised dilution process" as a substitute.
Sources stated that the main sticking point preventing an agreement is the disagreement between the two sides on Iran's nuclear program, particularly whether Tehran would agree to forgo uranium enrichment and abandon its existing stockpile.
Mediators from Pakistan, Egypt, and Turkey are currently working to bridge the remaining gaps and seek an agreement to end the war before the April 21st ceasefire deadline.
While no agreement has been reached yet, the Iranian side believed they were close to a preliminary deal by Sunday morning, catching Vance's press conference off guard. The Vice President did not suggest that an agreement was close, instead blaming Iran and announcing the departure of the US delegation from Islamabad.
An informed source said, "The Iranians were very upset about that press conference."
