BlockBeats News, April 13th. According to the Hong Kong Police Force's "Cyber Security and Technology Crime Bureau" platform, a romance scam involving a single loss of over 2 million Hong Kong dollars occurred in the past week.
It is reported that the scammer took the initiative to follow a woman in her fifties on Instagram, started a conversation through comments on posts, quickly established a romantic relationship, and then claimed to be a "cryptocurrency investment expert." Using "risk-free investment" as bait to commit fraud. The fraudster first asked the victim to transfer 40,000 Hong Kong dollars for "account opening fees," then induced her to carry cash to a physical exchange store seven times to exchange for USDT, and transfer it to the fraudster's account through an e-wallet. Once the money was received, the fraudster immediately "disappeared" and cut off contact.
The police remind the public to be vigilant when making friends online. If someone claims to be an investment expert and asks for a transfer for any reason, they should stop immediately and think calmly.
