United Nations Heads of Agencies Call for Accountability for Violations of International Law by All Sides in the Middle East

BlockBeats News, April 11th, heads of multiple United Nations agencies called for an end to the pervasive impunity for violations of international law in the Middle East region. Leaders from various countries stated in a joint declaration that they were "appalled by ongoing violations of the rules of war and international humanitarian law in the region." The statement emphasized that "even in times of war, there are rules that must be respected."

The declaration stated: "Just last month, thousands of civilians were killed or injured in the Middle East region. Hundreds of thousands were displaced, many having been forced to move multiple times. We call on all parties – whether United Nations member states or armed groups – to respect their legal obligations to protect civilians (including humanitarian workers) and civilian infrastructure. All violations must be brought to account."
