F2Pool Co-Founder Chun Wang: BTC Protocol Upgrade Should Not Involve "Political Compromise"

BlockBeats News, April 4th, F2Pool co-founder Wang Chun stated in a post on X Platform that Bitcoin protocol upgrades should not adopt a similar approach to the one used by American politicians through "omnibus bills" to forcefully advance "some must-pass but unpopular provisions," which is also a key reason for his opposition to BIP-110 and BIP-54.

Responding to whether any issues were encountered when implementing any fixes using BIP-54, Wang Chun further stated that the "Timewarp" issue has been around for a long time, poses no significant advantage to miners since the next block's miner cannot be predicted, and its only practical use is to disrupt certain altcoins. As it provides almost no actual benefits to Bitcoin miners, there is no urgent need to modify it. Additionally, block validation efficiency has significantly improved due to libsecp256k1 and hardware upgrades, requiring no protocol-level adjustments. The "forged already confirmed transactions" fundamentally rely on breaking double SHA256 collision, and if successful, would mean that Bitcoin Core security has been compromised.

Wang Chun added that the above issues are not sufficient to drive protocol changes, with only the "duplicate transactions" problem currently possessing some repair value, potentially being one of the few changes worth implementing.
