US-Iran Ceasefire Mediation Stalemate, Iran Unwilling to Meet, Qatar Refuses to Mediate

BlockBeats News, April 4th, according to WSJ report, officials and mediators familiar with the matter said that Qatar has refused to act as a key mediator in the potential US-Iran ceasefire agreement, complicating the efforts to find a negotiating way out. Sources revealed that last week Qatari officials informed US officials that the country has no intention to play a key role in mediation or lead related efforts.

Mediators said earlier on Friday local time that the latest efforts led by Pakistan to facilitate a US-Iran ceasefire have reached an impasse. Mediators stated that Iran has formally informed them that they are unwilling to meet with US officials in Islamabad in the coming days and that the US demands are unacceptable.

Mediators also stated that Turkey and Egypt are still working on finding ways to solve the issue and are considering new meeting locations, including the Qatari capital Doha or Istanbul, and are also contemplating new proposals to break the deadlock. In addition, according to Iranian media Fars News, sources said that Iran has rejected the US-proposed 48-hour ceasefire.
