BlockBeats News, March 27th. According to Bloomberg, the total amount raised in the cryptocurrency sector through private funding rounds increased from nearly $13 billion in 2024 to $20.4 billion in 2025, but still below the peak of $27.6 billion in 2022. The two main areas of private funding are "Investment & Trading Infrastructure" and "Brokers & Exchanges" (i.e., financial applications). Payment infrastructure ranks third.
Cryptocurrency payment companies raised a total of $2.6 billion in 2025, surpassing the total raised in the past three years combined. Given the recent acquisition of BVNK by Mastercard, this number is expected to grow further this year.
In contrast, blockchain gaming funding plummeted from $37.6 billion in 2022 (about 14% of the total) to no longer being reported as a separate category in 2025. Web3 dApps raised $5.2 billion in 2022. In the 2025 report, the dApp category focused on consumer applications alone received only $864 million in funding.
