AXIOS: U.S. Defense Department is developing a military plan for a potential Iran strike

BlockBeats News, March 26th, according to AXIOS, according to two U.S. officials and two sources familiar with the matter, the Pentagon is developing a military plan for a "decisive strike" against Iran, which may include deploying ground troops and conducting large-scale bombing operations.

If diplomatic negotiations fail to make progress, especially if the Strait of Hormuz remains closed, the likelihood of a sharp escalation in the situation will increase. Some U.S. officials believe that demonstrating overwhelming force to end the conflict can create more leverage in negotiations or simply allow President Trump to declare victory.

In Axios' interviews, officials and sources familiar with the internal discussions described four "decisive strike" options that Trump might choose:

· Invade or block Iran's main oil export hub — Kharg Island.

· Invade Larak Island, which helps Iran consolidate control of the Strait of Hormuz. This strategic outpost features Iran's bunkers, attack boats capable of sinking ships, and radar to monitor activity in the strait.

· Seize the strategically important Abu Musa Island and two smaller islands, located near the western entrance of the Strait of Hormuz, currently controlled by Iran but also claimed by the UAE.

· Block or seize ships transporting Iranian oil on the east side of the Strait of Hormuz.

The U.S. military has also developed plans to conduct ground operations deep inside Iran, with the goal of seizing highly enriched uranium stored in nuclear facilities. However, the U.S. may choose not to carry out such a complex and risky operation against these facilities, opting instead for large-scale airstrikes to prevent Iran from obtaining these materials.
