According to 1M AI News, OpenAI has announced the shutdown of its standalone video generation platform, Sora, which was launched just last September. Disney simultaneously stated that the collaboration is "no longer moving forward," despite a previous agreement for Disney to invest $1 billion in OpenAI and license IP such as Mickey Mouse and Cinderella for Sora, although the actual funding was never finalized.
Sora is the second "side project" recently axed by OpenAI, following the removal of the Instant Checkout feature from ChatGPT. OpenAI is now refocusing its efforts on computation power, chips, and enterprise products, as the priority of experimental projects continues to decline in the face of competition from Anthropic and Google.
