Hormuz Strait Now Open to "Zombie Ship": Impersonating Decommissioned LNG Vessel, Escalating Wartime Shipping Risk

BlockBeats News, March 21st, a vessel falsely claiming to be a decommissioned liquefied natural gas (LNG) tanker sailed out of the Strait of Hormuz on Friday, indicating that the strategy through this waterway is evolving as the Middle East conflict progresses.

Vessel tracking data shows that the vessel, identified as the LNG carrier "Jamal," left the strait on Friday morning. However, according to market participants and port agents' reports, the same tanker was reported to have run aground at a shipbreaking yard in India last October and is currently being dismantled there.

The vessel claiming to be the "Jamal" is likely a "zombie ship," impersonating the identity of a legitimately decommissioned vessel. This is the first known incident of this kind passing through the Strait of Hormuz since the outbreak of the war. (Jinse)
