xAI Third Friday Joining: Mistral Co-Founder Chaplot Joins, Spanning xAI and SpaceX, Specializing in Grok Model Training

According to 1M AI News, Mistral AI Co-Founder Devendra Singh Chaplot announced joining xAI and SpaceX, where he will be directly involved in training the Grok large model and the integration of digital intelligence with physical hardware. Chaplot himself posted the message on X on March 14, and Musk retweeted with a reply "Welcome to xAI".

Chaplot is a key figure in the Embodied AI field. During his time at Mistral AI, he directly led the training of core models like Mistral 7B, Mixtral 8x7B, and Mistral Large, and led the development of the multimodal model Pixtral 12B. He then became a founding team member of the Thinking Machines Lab established by former OpenAI CTO Mira Murati.

With the addition of Andrew Milich and Jason Ginsberg from the AI programming tool Cursor, xAI has onboarded three heavyweight talents in a week, forming a combination layout of "model layer reconstruction + product layer empowerment." This stands in stark contrast to the ongoing exodus of co-founders, with xAI simultaneously experiencing significant talent drain and influx.
