BlockBeats News, March 10th, according to Bloomberg citing a senior U.S. defense official, Google, a subsidiary of Alphabet Inc., is introducing artificial intelligence agents to the Pentagon's workforce to automate handling daily tasks.
Google's Gemini AI agent is able to perform tasks on behalf of users independently, with users only needing to set specific tasks for it. U.S. Deputy Under Secretary of Defense for Research and Engineering, Emil Michael, said these AI agents will initially operate on non-classified networks.
Google Vice President Jim Kelly stated in a blog post on Tuesday that this new feature will allow civilian and military personnel at the U.S. Department of Defense to build AI agents through natural language. Google has faced internal criticism in the past for its collaboration with the U.S. Department of Defense. In 2018, thousands of employees protested the company's involvement in Project Maven, a Pentagon initiative to use AI to analyze overseas drone warfare video data. The backlash ultimately led Google to not renew the project contract.
