Concerns Over Surveillance and Autonomous Weapons Lead to Resignation of OpenAI Robotics Head

BlockBeats News, March 8th, according to 1M AI News, Caitlyn Kalinowski, who has been in charge of OpenAI's robotics division since November 2024, has resigned due to concerns about the company's military negotiations. She stated, "This was not an easy decision. Artificial intelligence plays a critical role in national security, but unchecked American surveillance, and unauthorized lethal autonomous weapons, are red lines that should have undergone more careful deliberation. This is about principles, not individuals." Her resignation comes against the backdrop of escalating controversy: AI companies are increasingly divided on the issue of supporting the U.S. military's use of this technology.

Recently, negotiations between the U.S. Department of Defense and Anthropic broke down when the latter insisted on strict limitations regarding domestic surveillance and autonomous weapons. Shortly thereafter, OpenAI reached an agreement with the U.S. Department of Defense to deploy its models on a classified government network.
