Bloomberg: US CFTC May Move to Co-Locate With SEC, But Agencies Won’t Merge

BlockBeats News, March 7th, According to people familiar with the matter, two top Wall Street regulatory agencies, CFTC and SEC, are discussing a plan to move into the same building complex in Washington, D.C., just steps away from the U.S. Capitol Building.

The Securities and Exchange Commission (SEC) and the Commodity Futures Trading Commission (CFTC) regulate different markets. According to these sources, the plan does not involve merging the two agencies, but rather a discussion to relocate CFTC to the same building complex where SEC is currently located, near Union Station. This relocation plan has been under discussion since last year and, according to these sources, may not be implemented until as early as 2027. The U.S. General Services Administration, responsible for overseeing federal real estate, is also involved in these discussions.
