Anthropic CEO: Not Praising or Donating to Trump Root of Strained Relationship With Current US Government

BlockBeats News, March 5th. According to The Information, Anthropic CEO Dario Amodei said in a memo to employees that the root of Anthropic's tense relationship with the Trump administration is that Anthropic is unwilling to curry favor with the current government.

He wrote, "The real reason the US Department of Defense and the Trump administration don't like us is that we haven't donated to Trump (while OpenAI/OpenAI co-founder Greg Brockman has donated a lot)." He is likely referring to Greg Brockman and his wife's $25 million donation to Trump's super PAC.

Dario Amodei also pointed out, "We haven't praised Trump in a dictatorial way (while OpenAI founder Sam Altman has), we support AI regulation, which contradicts their agenda; we have spoken truthfully on various AI policy issues (such as job displacement issues); we have also stuck to our principles, acted with integrity, rather than colluding with them to engage in 'security theater' to appease employees—I assure you, this is exactly the issue that the Department of Defense, Palantir (Anthropic's government business partner), our political advisors, and everyone else think we are addressing."
