Balaji on Anthropic: The "principles" in the political and tech spheres are often a fig leaf for tribal interests

BlockBeats News, February 28th. Former Coinbase CTO and angel investor Balaji Srinivasan commented on the "Anthropic rejects Pentagon open security clearance requirement, Trump orders tough ban" incident, stating: The "principles" in the political and tech fields are often a disguise for tribal interests, for example, the Democratic Party supports Starlink for Biden's military aid but opposes Anthropic servicing Trump's military needs, reflecting a rational tribal strategy.

He pointed out that Americans traditionally do not emphasize tribalism until recent years of intensified polarization; AI practitioners had naively believed in a return to consensus, but now they must face the dialectical relationship between the network and the state, driving Silicon Valley to radiate towards global startup cities. "Tribes can cooperate internally, and tribes can also cooperate with each other. The key is to understand which tribe you (the tech company) belong to and which tribe you are dealing with. You can have your principles as well. But understand that only those principles that can bring collective power to the tribe over time can survive in natural selection."
