BlockBeats News, February 27, the Ethereum Layer 2 project ZKSync announced that ZKSync Lite (formerly ZKSync 1.0) will be officially deprecated on May 4, 2026. At that time, the network will stop producing blocks and permanently freeze the final state to ensure that balances cannot be altered after the shutdown.
The team stated that this is part of an "orderly and planned exit strategy" and will not affect the ZKSync Era or other chains built on the ZK Stack. After the Lite shutdown, the team will maintain at least one year of read-only APIs to support historical data queries. Users are advised to proactively withdraw their assets before the deadline for convenience, but unwithdrawn funds can still be claimed later.
Data shows that there are currently approximately $33.9 million worth of assets bridged to ZKSync Lite, including about $24.9 million in stablecoins, $8.4 million in ETH and its derivatives, $313,000 in BTC and its derivatives, and about $231,000 in other assets.
ZKSync Lite launched in June 2020 as Ethereum's first zero-knowledge Rollup, supporting token transfers, atomic swaps, and NFT minting, but lacking smart contract capabilities. In March 2023, the development team at Matter Labs halted Lite development after introducing the Era, shifting focus to supporting a universal smart contract-capable zkEVM system.
