BlockBeats News, February 13th, Openclaw founder Peter Steinberger recently confirmed in an interview with Lex Fridman that Openclaw has received acquisition offers from multiple companies. Regarding the possibility of a multi-billion or even multi-ten-billion dollar financing, Steinberger said, "I am not interested at all. I have been a CEO once, this path will take up all my time, and will also bring conflicts of interest, such as prioritizing the enterprise edition, modifying the open-source license, all of which would harm the community. What I want is unconditionally fully free and open source."
In addition, Steinberger stated that Openclaw is currently losing money. Monthly revenue is between $10,000 and $20,000, but subsidizing personal maintenance of dependency projects, with some support from companies like OpenAI, is still unsustainable.
Regarding options for cooperation with large labs, Steinberger said the core condition is that the project must remain open source, similar to Chrome and Chromium. "This is too important to be left entirely to one company. Moreover, the community atmosphere of ClawCon is particularly precious, a passion that was only found in the early days of the Internet. I want to popularize it to more people. This year is the year of personal agency, and cooperating with labs is the fastest way. I have never worked in a large company and want to experience that."
