Bennet Suggests Holding Walsh Nomination Hearing Alongside Powell Probe

2026-02-09 04:37

BlockBeats News, February 9th: U.S. Treasury Secretary Yellen suggested that Washington's nomination hearing for the Federal Reserve Chair should be held concurrently with the investigation into current Chair Powell. Previously, Republican Senator Thom Tillis stated that he plans to delay the confirmation of the next Federal Reserve Chair until the Department of Justice completes its investigation into Powell. Although Tillis supports Washington to be the Federal Reserve Chair, as a member of the Senate Banking Committee, he has repeatedly vowed to block this nomination until the Department of Justice uncovers the truth to uphold the Fed's independence.

Tillis' vote is crucial as Republicans currently hold 13 out of 24 seats on the Senate Banking Committee, where they can unite to pass Washington's nomination by force. However, due to Tillis' defection, a tied outcome is possible.
