Tether Acts on Turkey's Request to Freeze $5.44 Billion in Illicit Crypto Assets

BlockBeats News, February 7th, Tether has frozen over $544 million in cryptocurrency assets in response to a request from Turkey, which are related to a suspected illegal online gambling and money laundering network. Data from the analysis firm Elliptic shows that by the end of 2025, Tether and Circle had blacklisted approximately 5,700 wallets, freezing a total of around $2.5 billion, with about two-thirds in USDT.

Tether's Chief Technology Officer Paolo Ardoino stated that the company took legal freezing actions upon receiving information from law enforcement agencies.
