Tether Acts on Turkey's Request to Freeze $5.44 Billion in Illicit Crypto Assets

BlockBeats News, February 7th, Tether has frozen over $544 million in cryptocurrency assets in response to a request from Turkey, which are related to a suspected illegal online gambling and money laundering network. Data from the analysis firm Elliptic shows that by the end of 2025, Tether and Circle had blacklisted approximately 5,700 wallets, freezing a total of around $2.5 billion, with about two-thirds in USDT.


Tether's Chief Technology Officer Paolo Ardoino stated that the company took legal freezing actions upon receiving information from law enforcement agencies. This cooperation is part of Tether's global compliance efforts and has previously cooperated with agencies such as the US Department of Justice and the FBI. (Cointelegraph)
