BlockBeats News, February 7th. According to official sources, Bithumb has released a follow-up announcement regarding the "Bitcoin Airdrop" event. The platform stated that during the reward distribution process yesterday, due to an error in the amount of Bitcoin input, some customers received a large Bitcoin airdrop.
Using its abnormal transaction internal control system, Bithumb restricted transactions and withdrawals for 695 customers within 35 minutes of the mistaken payment. Over 99% of the mistaken payment has been recovered, minimizing customer losses through swift actions. The remaining unrecovered assets are still under process. Details are as follows:
· Erroneous transfer amount: 620,000 BTC (2.95% of total BTC)
· Amount recovered: 618,212 BTC (approximately 99.7% of the total)
· 1,788 BTC and equivalent assets (KRW and other virtual assets) that were sold have also been 93% recovered
(Confirmed that the erroneously transferred Bitcoin did not undergo external address transfers)
BlockBeats previously reported that employees of the South Korean cryptocurrency exchange Bithumb mistakenly distributed 2000 BTC instead of the intended 2000 KRW as a reward, leading to hundreds of users inadvertently receiving this airdrop. As a result of this incident, the price of Bitcoin on the Bithumb platform temporarily dropped by 10% compared to other markets.
