CFTC Withdraws Proposal to Ban Political Event Prediction Markets Introduced During the Biden Era

BlockBeats News, February 5th, the U.S. Commodity Futures Trading Commission (CFTC) announced a significant policy shift, formally withdrawing the proposal to ban political event prediction markets during the Biden administration and indicating new rulemaking. The CFTC is readjusting its stance in the increasingly contentious jurisdictional battle and attempting to expand the CFTC's authority.

As the CFTC withdraws the proposal, U.S. states are ramping up regulatory pressure on prediction markets. Recently, the Nevada Gaming Control Board filed a complaint against Coinbase, alleging the offering of unlicensed sports betting through event contracts. The withdrawal of the proposal marks a shift at the federal level from prohibition to a more supportive stance on innovation, but jurisdictional conflicts between states and the federal government persist.
