Trump Reaches Deal with Democrats on Funding to Avoid Government Shutdown

BlockBeats News, January 30th — According to NBC News, five sources familiar with the matter revealed that U.S. President Trump and Senate Democrats reached an agreement on Thursday to avoid a prolonged government shutdown and ease the intense battle surrounding the Department of Homeland Security and Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE).

Earlier, two U.S. citizens were shot dead by law enforcement officers in Minneapolis, escalating the funding dispute to a boiling point. While funding for several agencies will be temporarily halted starting at 00:01 on early Saturday morning, the impact is expected to be minimal as most federal employees do not work over the weekend. The Senate could vote on the funding deal as early as Thursday evening. The House is set to return to Washington on Monday to pass the bill and send it to President Trump for signing.
