$47.7 Million Worth of Bitcoin Seized by South Korean Regional Prosecutor's Office Stolen in Phishing Attack

BlockBeats News, January 23rd, according to Cointelegraph, about 70 billion South Korean won (47.7 million USD) worth of Bitcoin was stolen from the Gwangju local prosecutor's office, and authorities have launched an investigation.

Prosecutors reportedly discovered the missing Bitcoin during a routine asset seizure, with the cryptocurrency being stolen through a phishing attack after a staff member visited a fraudulent website. The prosecution office refused to disclose the specific amount of the loss and the time of Bitcoin seizure, only stating that they are "tracking the confiscated items and their whereabouts." This incident occurred after South Korean customs authorities dismantled a large-scale cryptocurrency money laundering network earlier this week.
