White House Cybersecurity Coordinator: Still Pushing for Establishment of Bitcoin Strategic Reserve

2026-01-18 01:18

BlockBeats News, January 18th. Patrick Witt, Director of the White House Cryptocurrency Council, stated that the United States is still working on establishing a Bitcoin strategic reserve, but inter-agency coordination faces challenges, and some "more obscure, complex legal terms" have brought restrictions. Currently, multiple government agencies, including the Department of Justice and the Office of Legal Counsel, are discussing the legal and regulatory issues surrounding the establishment of a Bitcoin strategic reserve, and the matter remains "on the priority list."

Furthermore, the White House stated yesterday that the U.S. government has not sold the Bitcoin seized from Samourai Wallet developers, "they will be held as part of the government's strategic Bitcoin reserve on the balance sheet."
