BlockBeats News, January 16th, Google Play Korea will ban overseas unregistered cryptocurrency CEX and wallet apps from being listed or updated. According to Google's official policy, cryptocurrency exchanges and wallet service providers must register with Korea's financial intelligence unit FIU as virtual asset service providers to continue operating in the app store.
Affected by this policy, starting from January 28th, Korean Android users will be unable to download or update unregistered overseas exchange apps through Google Play, including Binance, Bybit, and OKX. Currently, only 27 domestic platforms including Upbit and Bithumb have completed the registration.
Reports indicate that although web access will still be available, this move may impact Korean retail investors who rely on overseas platforms for high-leverage trading, arbitrage, and access to a wider range of tokens. The local community has begun to circulate bypass methods such as using VPNs or APK installation, but such practices are considered to have high security risks. (The Block)
