Japanese Minister of Finance: Designates 2026 as the "Digital First Year," Aims to Promote Digital Assets through Stock Exchanges

2026-01-05 05:52

BlockBeats News, January 5th - According to CoinPost, Japanese Minister of Finance Okatsuka Katsuki gave a speech at the opening ceremony of the first trading day of the new year at the Tokyo Stock Exchange, positioning 2026 as the "Digital First Year."

Minister Okatsuka stated that for the public to benefit from digital assets and blockchain assets, commodities and securities exchanges need to play an important role, expressing her expectation for the popularization of cryptocurrency and digital assets through exchange infrastructure. She pointed out that in the U.S., crypto assets have become a means for the public to hedge against inflation in the form of ETFs (Exchange-Traded Funds), hinting that Japan may take similar measures.

Minister Okatsuka also stated that as the Minister of Finance, she will fully support the efforts of exchanges to build a trading environment using cutting-edge financial technology, and she looks forward to the stock market reaching new highs this year.
