Trump Says He Will Not Halt Tariff Policy

2025-04-08 06:53

BlockBeats News, April 8th - On April 7th, local time, U.S. President Trump stated that he would not suspend the so-called "reciprocal tariff" policy. Trump said after meeting with visiting Israeli Prime Minister Netanyahu at the White House that day that he is not considering suspending the tariff policy at the moment, as many leaders of economies are seeking negotiations with him. He believes that implementing tariff policies forcefully and engaging in negotiations are not contradictory.

Trump also said that he rejected the proposal made earlier that day by the European Union for mutual tariff exemptions with the United States, saying, "No, that's not nearly enough," and "They have been deceiving us on trade issues." Netanyahu told the media after the meeting that Israel will quickly eliminate its trade deficit with the United States. According to U.S. government data, the bilateral trade volume between the U.S. and Israel is about $37 billion by 2024, with a U.S. trade surplus of $7.4 billion. (FXStreet)
