BlockBeats News, April 2nd, according to The Block, Elon Musk's social media platform X has filed a request with the U.S. Supreme Court to block law enforcement from compelling companies (such as the cryptocurrency exchange Coinbase) to disclose user financial data.
In a friend of the court brief submitted to the Supreme Court last Friday, X Corp. stated that the Internal Revenue Service (IRS) had previously obtained Coinbase's transaction records spanning three years through a subpoena without a search warrant, involving more than 14,000 customers of the exchange, including petitioner James Harper's transaction records.
Social media giant X, along with seven other research institutions and advocacy organizations, has jointly raised concerns about the use of so-called "suspicionless subpoenas," arguing that such requests violate user privacy. X Corporation stated that the IRS "obtained a significant amount of Coinbase user records through large-scale subpoenas without specific suspicion," thereby infringing on Harper's rights under the Fourth Amendment to the U.S. Constitution.
