21Shares Chief Strategist: The U.S. Can Increase Reserves Through 'Bitcoin Seized from Criminal Proceeds' and 'Bitcoin Acquired Through Fines'

BlockBeats News, March 7th, according to 21Shares' Head of Strategy Eliezer Ndinga, who stated on social media that he believes the U.S. government has two ways to increase its Bitcoin reserves. The first is by seizing Bitcoin obtained through criminal activities, such as the 174,000 bitcoins in the Silk Road case, which would not require additional spending; the second is to use fines collected by cryptocurrency enforcement agencies (such as the U.S. Securities and Exchange Commission/Commodity Futures Trading Commission) to purchase Bitcoin.

This morning, President Trump officially signed an executive order to establish a Bitcoin Strategic Reserve and Digital Asset Reserve, a major announcement that has garnered widespread market attention. However, Galaxy Digital's Head of Research, Alex Thorn, tweeted that the US reserve would be able to allocate a maximum of only 86,000 BTC.
Trump is not opposed to taking action on cryptocurrency, but a Bitcoin strategic reserve is not his top priority.
