BlockBeats News, February 24th. The Ethereum Pectra upgrade will be activated on the Holesky testnet tomorrow at 5:55 (UTC+8) for developers to test new features before deployment on the mainnet. The upgrade introduces a new validator reward mechanism, account abstraction feature, and Layer-2 scaling optimization.
The Ethereum Foundation stated that Pectra will launch on the Holesky testnet at epoch 115,968. If the testnet upgrades successfully, an activation epoch will be chosen for the mainnet. The Pectra upgrade includes three key features: enhanced Ethereum account capabilities, support for Layer-2 scaling, and improved validator user experience. A significant change is EIP-3074, which enhances Ethereum's account abstraction by allowing externally owned accounts (EOAs) to execute batch transactions and sponsor gas fees. Furthermore, the Pectra upgrade will increase Ethereum's blob capacity by 50%. The mainnet currently supports an average of 3 blobs per block, which will increase to 6 after the Pectra deployment.
The Ethereum Dencun upgrade was implemented on March 13, 2024, significantly reducing transaction fees on Layer-2 networks and optimizing the Rollup economic model. It is seen as a key milestone for Ethereum's large-scale adoption.
