BlockBeats News, February 5th, according to Fox News, on Wednesday, the Senate Commerce Committee approved billionaire banker Howard Lutnick's nomination to lead the Department of Commerce in a vote and sent it to the full Senate for consideration.
The nomination was approved along party lines in the committee, with the only exception being Democratic Senator from Pennsylvania John Fetterman, who joined Republicans in casting supportive votes. Lutnick is a long-time friend of President Trump and the CEO of investment firm Cantor Fitzgerald. If confirmed, he will be responsible for advancing the Department of Commerce's new cryptocurrency and tariff policies.
In addition, he will also be responsible for implementing a new executive order issued by Trump aimed at establishing a sovereign wealth fund for the U.S. government. This outspoken CEO is well known for leading Cantor out of crisis after the 9/11 terrorist attacks, during which his brother and over 600 colleagues perished. Lutnick has been praised for his charitable work, providing support to families impacted by terrorist attacks, natural disasters, and other emergencies through the Cantor Fitzgerald’s Relief Fund.
Lutnick supports a tough tariff policy and pledged during his confirmation hearing to "utilize all available power to carry out the president's trade agenda." He called the idea that tariffs cause inflation "nonsense."
