U.S. judge dismisses Debt Box case, orders SEC to pay $1.8 million in related fees

BlockBeats news, May 29, according to Cointelegraph, a federal judge ordered the U.S. Securities and Exchange Commission (SEC) to pay approximately $1.8 million in attorney fees and receivership fees related to the regulator's civil case against Digital Licensing (a company operating under the name Debt Box).

In a document filed with the Utah District Court on May 28, Judge Robert Shelby signed an order requiring the SEC to pay approximately $1 million in attorney fees and related expenses, as well as $750,000 in receivership fees and related expenses. The order was issued together with a decision to dismiss the case on the same day, but the dismissal decision was without prejudice.

“This is a big win for us. It means the SEC cannot move forward with the case as it stands,” Debt Box said in a post on May 28.

BlockBeats previously reported that two SEC lawyers resigned in April as lead counsel in a case against Digital Licensing Inc., a crypto platform called DEBT Box, after a federal judge harshly criticized the Wall Street regulator for “gross abuse” of power in a crypto case.
