The Thai SEC files a lawsuit against former Zipmex Thailand CEO.
BlockBeats news reported on February 8th that the Thai Securities and Exchange Commission (SEC) has filed a lawsuit against former Zipmex Thailand CEO Akarlap Yimwilai, accusing him of misleading customers and providing false information. The SEC alleges that prior to announcing changes to terms and conditions, assets held by customers in Zipmex's Z wallet were transferred to a digital wallet overseas, which contradicts information provided by Zipmex Thailand. Therefore, the SEC believes that Zipmex Thailand engaged in fraud by providing false statements.
According to his LinkedIn profile, Akarlap Yimwilai served as CEO of Zipmex Thailand from August 2018 to November 2023. Zipmex Thailand is a branch of Zipmex headquartered in Singapore, which received operational approval from the Ministry of Finance and SEC in 2020. The SEC also noted that the reports submitted by Zipmex Thailand were inconsistent with information it could confirm, and has filed a complaint against the CEO with the provincial crime suppression unit to consider further legal action.
