In a statement by SEC Chairman Gary Gensler, the agency claimed that "an unauthorized person accessed the SEC official Twitter account by gaining control of the phone number associated with the account." This may be a SIM card swapping attack, a common form of Twitter account hijacking that can be avoided through multi-factor authentication.
