The Honduran province of Roatán has officially recognized Bitcoin as a unit of account.
According to a report from Cointelegraph on January 8th, a special economic zone in Roatan, Honduras called Próspera has officially recognized Bitcoin as a unit of account, which means that Bitcoin can now be used to measure the market value of goods and services.
This development was led by Jorge Colindres, the tax commissioner of the Próspera employment and economic development zone (ZEDE), on January 5th. Colindres stated that due to technical limitations in its electronic governance system, as well as some external regulatory issues, the "final Bitcoin tax procedure" cannot be implemented at present.
Those who intend to use Bitcoin as a unit of account must submit a notice to Próspera's tax committee within 30 days after the relevant tax period expires.
