In 2023, crypto users lost nearly $2 billion due to fraud, RUG, and hacker attacks, a decrease of approximately 50% compared to last year.
According to a report by De.Fi, a security application, cryptocurrency users lost nearly 2 billion US dollars due to scams, RUG (Rug Pulls), and hacking attacks in 2023, which is about half of the previous year. This reduction is mainly attributed to the implementation of upgraded security protocols, an increase in anti-scam awareness within the community, and an overall decrease in market activity. However, the data still indicates that the cryptocurrency industry is susceptible to security risks.
Among the blockchains, Ethereum, which has the highest number of active users and total value locked (TVL), suffered the highest losses, with approximately 1.35 billion US dollars lost in about 170 incidents, while BNB Chain lost 110.12 million US dollars in 213 incidents.
