Blocknative has stopped its MEV-boost service due to economic concerns, raising concerns about centralization of Ethereum relays.
BlockBeats reported on September 28th that Ethereum infrastructure service provider Blocknative will stop its MEV-boost relay service due to the business being unable to maintain economic benefits. With Blocknative's decision to stop its MEV-boost relay service, concerns about the centralization of the Ethereum network have intensified. According to recent data, 93% of Ethereum blocks created in the past 14 days have used MEV-boost, with five entities responsible for 98% of MEV-boosted transactions.
Currently, only four relays are still active on the network, and these relays play a crucial role in settling transactions on Ethereum. The remaining four relays do not charge service fees, which means that the core part of Ethereum infrastructure is no longer profitable for its operators. If the economic incentive issue is not resolved, the centralization problem of relays may further worsen.
